Energy: A Description
Simply put - what is it?.
Theories of Energy
At the atomic level, everything is composed of positive and negative particles, protons and electrons, which move or vibrate at certain speeds and frequencies. In various combinations these basic particles form all of the matter that we see around us, the oceans, the atmosphere and all life on Earth. What we perceive with our senses is therefore an interpretation of what reality truly is. It is perhaps easier to understand a solid piece of wood, rather than have to struggle to realise that we see a complex sequence of constantly moving particles held together by attraction.
Once you understand that everything is composed of energy, including ourselves, then understanding energy healing is relatively easy. Not only does every cell in our body consist of molecules, which are themselves simply energy, but also we have electrical energy flowing through our nervous system and many of the cells of the body. We also have thought which is also a form of energy wave, measurable by electrodes placed around the brain.
If you have a copper wire coil, and you pass current through it, it will register that electrical flow. Bring a further copper coil close to the first one and measure and you will see that the second coil now shows a flow of electricity. This is without any contact between the two coils whatsoever.
This is the way energy healing works. The therapist/healer will activate an energy flow within themselves and by proximity to the client they will pass on and activate energy flow to them. Proximity can mean placing hands on the body, near the body or from a distance. The stronger the flow in the healer the more they will affect the client.
Within the framework of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) it is understood that a person who is ill has a blockage of their energy, in other words their normal flow has been disturbed. To make them healthy again it is necessary to remove the blockage or otherwise increase the flow. This is the basis of herbal remedies for it is believed the energy inherent within the plants has a positive effect on the body and will neutralise the blockage thus improving health. Acupuncture aims to influence the blockage directly by stimulation and it has been found that the acupuncture points have a different electrical conductance to the surrounding skin areas. With Chi Therapy the client is sent energy directly from the practitioner’s hands in order to remove the blockage. Chi energy is activated by various breathing exercises in a similar manner to Yoga and can create powerful energy flows. It is non-spiritual in nature, though the side effect of long practice is to achieve a more spiritual state of mind.
It can be seen that Energy Healing is a very practical from of healing, dealing with the body in quite a direct way and treating it more on the energy level, rather than looking at the disease or symptoms of illness and treating them. Once the energy levels are restored then the body will work correctly. It is the symptoms of illness that show where in the body the energy flow is weak or disturbed.
