Shamanic Power
A look at personal power, shamanically.
What is Power? Why is it important?
The concept of power is vitally important from the perspective of these methods. We all possess power and during our childhood, adolescence and adulthood we learn to use it or in some cases we may lose some it. Having power means to be complete and whole, to be at peace and one with yourself. It means being able to make choices for yourself from a position of strength and responsibility, to be in control of your own mind. Nobody can force you to do anything unless you allow them to.
When we allow people to control us, whether emotionally or physically, we surrender a small amount of our power to them. This is OK if we then receive something in return, for example in marriage we may concede to a partner’s wishes or requests and in turn they will do the same for us. At work we defer to an employer and receive payment for work undertaken. These are good examples of a fair exchange.
Imbalance happens when there is no reciprocal action, when our power is taken from us and nothing is given back. People who act aggressively may leave us feeling ‘powerless’ or ‘unable to act’. Selfish people who always take from those around them will leave us feeling drained after they have left. We need to take back our power and be complete once again.
Shamanic techniques such as Soul Retrieval and Extraction Work assist in gaining and returning power that has been taken from us, restoring us to full power and enabling us to be whole and complete again. We find harmony once more.
How do we lose power
Remembering that in the mundane world we are solid creatures and we have an existence on the spiritual world too. When a person acts with anger towards another, their spirit is reaching out to affect the other person. This will manifest in the mundane as violence or simply a few words shouted in anger. The mundane effect might be minimal to non-existent. In the spiritual world, the stronger the intent and the weaker the receiver then the more lasting the damage. A few words might cause someone to break down in tears. Their spirit has been affected.
Regaining Power
We can regain power by taking control of our feelings, by empowering ourselves to feel stronger, and with help from shamanic methods. These can remove other peoples intrusions of power, strengthen our own barriers and enable us to take charge of our life.
